Petra Gimmi was born in Albstadt-Ebingen, Germany, has a Master's Degree in geography, another in visual arts, and has traveled to Morocco, India, Great Britain, the Caribbean, Italy, Ireland, Scandinavia, Canary Islands, France, Lanzarote, Corsica, and the United States studying, sharing, and exhibiting her beautiful works of art. She was an artist in residence in Vallanes, Iceland in 2003. Petra is the author an illustrator of the book We've Been Traveling All the Night, and she is Mom to Paul and Pia.
